[OT] Traffic monitoring on DSL link

Hi all,

I've got a Jetstart ADSL connection, terminated with an Alcatel Speed Touch
Home, hooked up to an old 486 I have running linux and doing
NATing/Firewalling. Unfortunately, the STHome does not seem to support
traffic graphing, so I've been looking for other ways to do it.
It occurred to me I could install SNMP on my 486 and configure it to monitor
the LAN card the ADSL modem is on (it's just it on a card) and then either
use an apache plugin and view the graphs from a server, or get a windows
SNMP client and view them from my main comp. (and a linux client for my
Debian dual-boot :).
Unfortunately, SNMP seems to be incredibly difficult to configure to do
this, and I just can't work it out :/. Does anyone have any advice on how to
set traffic monitoring up, either with SNMP or otherwise, or a link to a
site/page that will help with this?

Thanks,

Nick Johnson
