Hi,

My brother is experiencing long training periods (over 10 minutes) with his D-Link
DSL200.

In an effort to fault find, I took my 3Com Dual Link modem over to his place. Upon
connecting my modem, it established a link in under 60 seconds with the following DSL
values.

ADSL Transceiver Status Report:

    Operational Mode operational

    Attenuation Upstream 20.0 dB
    Attenuation Downstream 41.5 dB

    Noise Margin Upstream 12.0 dB
    Noise Margin Downstream 11.5 dB

    Transmit Power (ATUR) 12.0 dBm
    Transmit Power (ATUC) 17.5 dBm

Actual Negotiated Downstream Baud Rate: 2752000 bps
Actual Negotiated Upstream Baud Rate: 704000 bps

My brothers current setup is on WinXP using:

RFC 2364 PPPoATM NULL Encapsulation
Modulation: Multimode
Driver Release: 1.10.0008Q (WanUsb)
Firemware: N55.1
Control Panel Version: 3.1.1

While training, the DSL200 polls through T1.413, G.DMT, and multimode. (there is an
option for G.Lite but this protocol doesn't appear to be used during polling)

Sometimes the modem will show a data connection for a split second on T1.413 but
will drop the link and continue polling.

After an extremely long period of time the modem will eventually settle on T1.413 and
hold the link up, although for how long varies greatly.

Can any one offer assistance with what this problem could be? Anyone able to offer a
solution?

At this point I'm thinking this particular DSL modem isn't able to deal with connections
over a long distance from the exchange. But I'm open to other suggestions.

Any assistance is appreciated,
Carlos
