You can ask your ISP to get telecom to do a "distance test" to see how far
you are away.. Line of sight to the local exchange it not a very good
indication. If you are futher than 1-2Km from the exchange I suggest you get
an External Ethernet modem as internals arn't that good over long distances.

DSL has a Max distance of about 18000ft (5.5Km), but this is based on a
certain type of wire (the larger the gauge of wire the shorter the distance
the DSL connection can be) . Also the protocol used makes a difference. as
G.Lite is a lower speed connection (Max ~2.5M rather than G.DMT's ~8M) and
uses a lower range of frequencies, it has a "longer reach" than G.DMT.
