The quality of the power supply in the PC and RF shielding/earthing probably
has a lot to do with that.
Some cheap PCs (and monitors) pump out so much RF noise that even a 56k
modem won't stay connected.

We have no real RF regulations or standards in NZ so we tend to get a lot of
junk imported.
