Yes, I did wonder if it was the line, but trying the modem on another line
(one at work) produced the same result. Also have tried both G.DMT and
T1.413 with no change.

Tried the user@jetstreamgames.co.nz login, and guess what, the same
response. So at least I'm not doing something really stupid, like getting
the login wrong.

The dial-up networking error that comes back is
Error 650
The computer you're dialing in to does not respond to a network request.

 And the diagnostics show 10 transmitted packets and 21 bad packets
recieved.

I've set up a few adsl modems before and never struck this sort of problem.
I'm starting to think its the modem.
