Brought to my attention today:
http://www.draytek.co.uk/products/vigor2600.html
Does anyone know if Draytek's products are represented here in NZ ?
The spec seems almost to good to be true. If it can do what's promised
then the bar is lifted significantly.
Pre-release info only:

ADSL Compatibility
The Vigor2600 router has direct ADSL support - it connects directly into
your ADSL line with the supplied cable. No additional modem is required,
and the Vigor2600 will automatically adjust for regular ADSL, RADSL and
downstream rates from 8Mb/s downwards. The Vigor2600 is suitable for both
self-install ADSL (also known as 'wires only') and original-style
Telco-installed ADSL lines.
Bandwidth Utilisation Display
The Vigor2600's LED indicators let you know what's happening. As well as
LEDs to indicate line status, activity and switch port status/speed, four
LEDs show the current broadband bandwidth utilisation. From left to right
each LED indicates 0-128, 128-256, 256-512 and >512 Kilobits per second.
You can also check router status, and adjust the configuration from your
LAN or remotely from the Internet.
Vigor2600 Enhanced Firewall
The Vigor2600 includes full packet-level firewall facilities, not just
the inherrent 'NAT' security and port-blocking of other routers. This
includes 'keep state' packet methods; put simply, this means that when a
packet is sent out, a reciprocal record is kept to allow a packet coming
back in the opposite direction, but a default 'deny' policy means that any
packet arriving which appears unsolicited won't get through. The Vigor2600
series also features automatic protection from Dos/DDos (Denial of
Service/Distributed Denial of Service) attacks and IP anti-spoofing.
User-definable filters also allow you to add additional protection to your
connection (see right). For added confidence, potential or foiled attacks
are logged and can be reported via the router's syslog facility. =C2=A0

Multimedia Support
Routers operating in 'NAT' mode usually prevent users from operating the
full features of multimedia communications programs such Microsoft
Netmeeting=E2?=A2 and MSN Messenger=E2?=A2 V4.6. The Vigor2600 has special
features to enable users to appreciate the full facilities of these
programs, including voice/video calls and file transfer. There is also
support for ICQ and CuSeeMe,
Vigor2600 VPN
The Vigor2600's VPN facility enables you to connect your network (LAN) to
another private network, via the public Internet, or for remote
teleworkers to access your LAN securely via the Internet. A secure
'tunnel' is established and as you are making use of an existing Internet
connection, there are no long distance phone charges or huge leased line
costs typical of LAN links. The Vigor2600 supports industry standard PPTP
and IPSec VPN protocols, with DES/3DES encryption. Each VPN tunnel can
route to multiple private subnets at the remote site.
As well as Vigor-to-Vigor VPNs and Windows Teleworker-to-Vigor VPNs, the
Vigor2600 series can create VPNs to other Vendor's products : Cisco
Pix=E2?=A2, Netscreen=E2?=A2, Nokia=E2?=A2 Sonicwall=E2?=A2,
Checkpoint=E2?=A2 and ZyWall=E2?=A2.
The Vigor2600 also supports "IP Posting" to automatically update Dynamic
DNS services. This means that if your ISP gives you a dynamic (changing)
IP address, you can still be found.
Vigor2600 Ethernet Switch
The Vigor2600 has a built-in four port Ethernet switch. It is
auto-sensing (10/100BaseT) and can run full or half-duplex. Additionally,
any of the ports will automatically detect a crossover cable, or uplink to
another switch/hub and switch to 'uplink' mode when required - no need for
crossover cables or special ports. If you have more than four PCs, you can
easily uplink into a larger switch or hub.
Wireless Ethernet (2600W/We only)
If you prefer the 'wireless' approach, the Vigor2600We version has all of
the Vigor2600's facilities plus a built-in Wireless Access Point. This
means that any PC with a compatible Wireless adaptor can access both the
Internet and other PCs on the network (wired or wireless). The Access
Point supports the 802.11b Wireless Ethernet standard, 40 or 128bit
encryption, MAC Address locking security, SSID stealthing and an enhanced
2.5Ghz bandwidth. The router can also be set to 'station mode' to act as a
satellite station to another central wireless router.
Optional ISDN Interface
The Vigor2600X and W variants adds an ISDN interface to the impressive
feature list; this plugs directly into your ISDN digital line. This
interface provides :
- Compatible with ISDN2e, & BT's Home/Business Highway lines
- Automatic backup for Internet access during ADSL failure
- Direct Dial-up LAN-to-LAN connectivity (to another ISDN site)
- Remote 'teleworker' direct dial-in access to your LAN (via ISDN)
- Virtual TA facility for faxing and other CAPI facilities
Syslog & SNMP
For monitoring router activity, you can run a Syslog Daemon which will
capture the activity output from the router. This Daemon program can run
on a local PC or a remote one elsehwhere on the Internet. We recommend
Kiwi Syslog which allows filtering, alarms and is very flexible. The
example syslog log below is a simulated example; exact reporting
capabilities vary with model. The Vigor2600 series also supports SNMP
allowing an SNMP client to monitor the router's activity, again locally or
remotely.
