I think he's more after an explanation about the power that externals vs
internals can pump down the line (or something to that effect) - and what
effect this has on the reach and stablility of externals vs internals. This
is something I'm interested in as well.
The advice I have had in the past from the telecom adsl helpdesk is that
under dodgy line conditions and/or when the user is a long way from the
exchange that externals perform better than internals because "they have
their own power supply rather than relying upon the meagre amount supplied
by the PCI bus or the USB port" (USB modems were also regarded as poor
performers).
Can anyone provide a more concrete explaination rather than something I just
heard?
Lance
