I agree with you on this. The cost of the 5 individual splitters
is more than the Telecom install costs too so it would have been
a cheaper option in the first instance. When they do the install
what they install is yours so if you move you can take it with you.
Right now I am using one DSE splitter and it is fine. Adding 5
to one phone connection is, for you, a problem and I suspect they
have an impact on the system equal to a normal phone (maybe
a bit less but not a lot). There are limits to the number of "ringer
equivalent" devices you are allowed on the line and I am sure it is
a lot less than the 5 phones you have and the 5 splitters you have.
If this is what is causing your prob you could get a booster for
the line. I have used one before but it was a plug in device to which
I connected some equipment - a fax, phone, answer machine and
one external ringer.
Maybe get Telecom to test your line to see how many phones they
think you have connected when you have your router up and running
and causing the prob.
