The filters are only on the end of the phones (one cordless and one corded).
We have the same problem, even if the phones are disconnected.

Usually get ~4000 down and 800 up.

Did a FaxRight ages ago (must do one again since the rewiring), seem to
recall that my USRobotics Sportster 56K was slightly on the quiet side for
transmitting.
