Just to keep the list up-to-date with developments on this story....
Datacom offered to transfer the router to the new black casing. I couriered it to
them Tuesday and they did the transfer and couriered it back (Auck-Rotorua)
arriving Saturday.
A log of reconnections from my ISP showed that in the 6 hours before sending it
away, it had reconnected 25 times. In the 3-4 days the Ni500 was away I used a
borrowed M1122 which did not reconnect once.
After I connected the re-cased Ni500 the connect times went 899 (mins), 966, 530
followed by 16 connections lasting on average 23 mins and then it degenerated into
reconnecting every 5 mins or so.
I must say, however, that watching and using the router - you would never guess
that the drop-outs were this frequent.
I have contacted Datacom again about this and they offered to replace the router -
with another Ni500. I told them that this seemed a bit of a waste of time to me and
they then offered an M1122 for $200 + GST which I have accepted. I can also get a
brand new Ni500 at no charge as a replacement for the existing one.
I know some of you will think that Nokia should provide the upgrade at no charge -
by my view is that I DID get 2.5 years out of the Ni500 before it started playing up.
So, I'm satisfied with the offer.
Mark Howard.
