My understanding is that the TelstraClear telephone service involves
copper twisted pair from the residence to the nearest roadside box,
where telephone circuits are multiplexed on to fibre. There isn't room
in the roadside boxes for ADSL multiplexing equipment as well, so ADSL
service isn't possible.

I believe Telecom suffers from the same problem in some new subdivisions.
