I am 5.7km from exchange and use an M1122 on Jetstart. Initially I had Telecom
set it up because you don't have to pay for installation if it turns out that your site
doesn't work. I had a DSL500 (? DLink) and the Telecom tech had an M1122. He
got it to work with his unit but no way would the DSL500 work. His tests
confirmed that the maximum line speed would only be about 300k anyway but
that was fine for Jetstart.
I then sourced an M1122 and have had no problems since (over a year) except
when there has been a general outage.
I have posed the question in the past but have received no answer other than a
general feel that Alcatel seemed to perform okay at longer distances. At work we
have swapped from DLink to Alcatel at customer sites (and our own) and our
ADSL outage problems have halved.
Maybe an answer from those on the forum who know that they are further than
4km from an exchange and tell us what units they are using ? Plus any they have
tried that didn't cut the mustard.
