Seems my comments have raised some "competitive" eyebrows! Check these direct reply snippets..

>> The fact that they adhere to standards does not make them of equal quality..

.. and then this...

>> However, some are obviously built to exceed the standards. Maybe Telecoms standards need to be risen.

- PTC280 - very clear & specific guidelines on how the "filter" is to filter - for the non-technical, its like a window - anything outside of the window is a failure!
- AS/NZS 3260 - this one is all about safety and getting compliance means the product has attained an acceptable safety level which in turn ensures a quality level is acheived.

Don't get me wrong, I doubt Telecom could ever set standards that would ensure all products connected to their lines will work 100% - they would need perfect lines and standards so strict that compliance would end up too expensive for people to afford the products.

But, I feel it is not acceptable to simply state "..its not our fault (or similar)" because the two don't work correctly. The statement re a bulletin being been sent out to dealers also seems incorrect. Assuming both products comply, they *should* work. To date, with over 26,000 DSE filters sold, we are quite happy with the compatibility and quality of the product. Where we to encounter serious or repetitive problems, we advise Telecom Access Standards so they can review as required. I guess this is what I was eluding to in my earlier note..

Also, I'm talking about specific topics here - ADSL filters working with Panasonic phones - comparisons on guitar quality and car safety standards are sort of out of context...

Regards, Chris...
