| I was having the same problems too. My ISP temporarily put me
| on a static IP and the micro-outages of the internet
| disappeared. My DSL line and PPP interface have been rock
| solid .. it looks more a problem with the coe Telecom IP network.
|
| My firewall still receives lots of probes from other DSL
| users in the 219.88.x.x range when my internet breaks after
| 210.55.64.64. I presume this box is a big beasty PPP
| concentrator like an Juniper ERX or similar.
|
According to World-Net, appears my problem may be the opposite, in that
they say there are some problems with Jetstream connections **with**
fixed IP's (funny ... I thought fixed IP's weren't allowed now for Surf
Connections :-) )

Apparently I was being allocated a fixed IP Address of 210.55.219.61
since I got my new Surf Connection. With this IP Address a traceroute
was:

traceroute to 219.88.230.8 (219.88.230.8), 30 hops max, 38 byte packets
 1 m1122.infobahnz.local (10.0.0.1) 1.474 ms 1.395 ms 2.716 ms
 2 210-55-64-64.adsl.netgate.net.nz (210.55.64.64) 45.581 ms 46.547
ms 47.068ms
 3 192.168.253.1 (192.168.253.1) 57.037 ms 54.665 ms 68.489 ms
 4 202.50.119.153 (202.50.119.153) 58.462 ms 56.698 ms 56.313 ms
 5 worldnet-dom.akcr5.global-gateway.net.nz (202.37.245.50) 57.200
ms56.179 ms 56.356 ms
 6 tauren.world-net.co.nz (203.96.119.41) 57.781 ms 60.173 ms 57.085
ms
 7 iiweb01 (219.88.230.8) 62.626 ms 63.170 ms 56.797 ms

Im now back to a Dynamic IP (210.55.64.0) and a current traceroute is:

traceroute to 219.88.230.8 (219.88.230.8), 30 hops max, 38 byte packets
 1 m1122.infobahnz.local (10.0.0.1) 1.440 ms 1.295 ms 1.707 ms
 2 210-55-64-64.adsl.netgate.net.nz (210.55.64.64) 45.945 ms 46.108
ms 45.297ms
 3 192.168.253.1 (192.168.253.1) 55.421 ms 55.066 ms 56.546 ms
 4 202.50.119.153 (202.50.119.153) 57.217 ms 55.491 ms 55.152 ms
 5 worldnet-dom.akcr5.global-gateway.net.nz (202.37.245.50) 54.886 ms
56.303 ms 58.665 ms
 6 tauren.world-net.co.nz (203.96.119.41) 55.763 ms 60.583 ms 55.712
ms
 7 iiweb01 (219.88.230.8) 56.761 ms 55.012 ms 54.744 ms

... so Im still going via 210.55.64.64.

One off-list reply suggested that the node
210-55-64-64.adsl.netgate.net. nz is a NetGate (Telecom Contractor) IP
address. Ive checked the router, and it definetly doesn't have
xxxxxx@contractor.telecom.co.nz in the username.

I'll keep my SSH and Term Serv connections open today and see if it
occurs again.

Cheers

Craig
