Ok, seems to have settled. Geoff Bradford pointed me in the right
direction it seemed. I had upgraded to 1.4.01 when I got the box, Geoff
mentioned he had issues with that verion on his 834G, and suggested I
look at http://www.dslreports.com/forums/all Voila! I found a link to
a beta of 1.4.07 and thought it was worth a crack (so to speak - and NOT
that I recommend beta software too often BUT this time it worked).
Installed and all seems great again.. mail is sending, surfing at
speed. Now to get the VPN sorted out!
