This is something I'd been meaning to ask - does anyone know a way of
telling if you are on UBS or i-UBS? Purely out of interest from a geek
perspective of course. :) I got changed over to UBS reasonably early
- my DSLAM connect rate is 320k/160k. The first few hops of a
traceroute to www.google.com on my UBS connection reveal the following:
traceroute to www.google.akadns.net (66.102.7.147), 64 hops max, 40 byte
packets
1 nokia (10.0.254.253) 1.073 ms 1.004 ms 0.945 ms
2 port-219-88-247-254.jet.net.nz (219.88.247.254) 98.886 ms 50.943
ms 52.657 ms
3 222.152.127.123 (222.152.127.123) 48.501 ms 48.669 ms 50.192 ms
4 203.96.122.3 (203.96.122.3) 49.503 ms 48.909 ms 50.119 ms
5 fastip-gige-orcon.orcon.net.nz (210.55.12.177) 49.876 ms 50.924
ms 51.631 ms
6 219.88.242.210 (219.88.242.210) 51.092 ms 50.220 ms 51.172 ms
7 a4-0-0-22.akbr1.global-gateway.net.nz (202.50.119.197) 52.497 ms
52.809 ms 51.183 ms
I did a whois on hop 3 and 4 and they appear to be associated with
telecom... from memory this traceroute looks reasonly similar to what I
got when I was on Jetstart with Orcon, however I remember that showing
up some 192.168.* addresses between hop 1 and 2 which don't appear now.
This would make me suspect I am on i-UBS but it really is a guess.
Anyone know for sure? And did you notice any difference if you moved
from i-UBS to UBS?
