_Actually_ In the case of the USB D-Link Routers, they use a web
interface, and not a driver, so the original author is correct.
When used via Ethernet they function as a conventional router.
When used via USB they set up a virtual network interface using software
supplied (I guess you could call that a driver) and from a system point of
view they're then a router, configured the same way as the router would be
normally.
Also for the record, Xtra also offer packages based around D-Link DSL
Devices, the DSL-302G (USB/Ethernet type), DSL-504G (Router type with 4
ports), and DSL-604T (504 functionality + WAP, runs on a cut down Linux
Kernel too i believe).
Unfortunately i've never had opportunity to try any of the above with
alternate web browsers, but I do have to agree that making these things
IE-Only is bad form. I do believe that at least the 604T has a Console,
the others probably do as well? Its been a little while since I played
with any of them...
Mark.
