I've considered it could be a peering issue, but I think more it is more
likely to be just a dodgy/fault/stuffed router/config somewhere.

I've done some other tests...

Ihug UBS (in Invercargill) --> Orcon/Telecom Jetstream 2MB (Dunedin). (bad
latency - jumps on to Telstra)

Ihug UBS (in Invercargill) --> Southnet/Global Gateway (bad latency - jumps to
Telstra)

Ihug UBS --> pop3.xtra.co.nz (works fine ala 80ms latency)
Ihug UBS --> www.ihug.co.nz or ns.orcon.net.nz (works fine ala 80ms latency)

So it seems that its only traffic thats going between Ihug and Global Gateway
that is being shunted via Telstra (and I think a Sydney router).

I'm fairly sure this wasn't a problem until up to a few days ago.

Cheers,
jon
