I think we all know how *lucky* we are. And that isn't lucky enough.
My friend in OZ uses WestNet and his plan is a 1.5Mbps/256kbps/10GB
peak/10GB off-peak; all for the princely sum of AU$69.95. Yes, I know
that's a wee bit pricier than the NZ$ 69.95 I'm paying TNZ for
2Mbps/128kbps/10GB total but I think I'd wear it if I lived over
there.

Xtra/TNZ, 16:1 asymmetric, 10GB. NZ$6.99 per GB
Orcon/TNZ, 16:1 asymmetric, 11GB, NZ$5.99 per GB (without tolls)
WestNet, 6:1 asymmetric, 20GB, AU$3.49 per GB

Hmm, I don't get 2Mbps in OZ, but I get a usable download/upload ratio
for my 1.5Mbps. All those acknowledgements will zip along with a
ration of 6:1, they can barely keep up at 16:1.

Of course we have to take whatever TNZ feels like giving us. They own
the market and there is nothing we can do about it. Xtra pretty much
rules the roost. Other ISPs have to accept the crumbs of whatever TNZ
gives them.

I hope that the CC can see how this is harming the business and
residential markets but I fear that he lacks the necessary knowledge
to understand the nonsense that TNZ presents to him on a regular
basis.

I wonder how much NZ business is losing because its customers cannot
access a broadband package that makes it practical to access an NZ
business via broadband. This is costing NZ business real money. How
much lower could their costs be if their customers could deal with
them over the internet instead of having to use some kind of physical
presence?

I am not asking for something unreasonable. Just a chance for someone
else to offer something different to what TNZ gives up. Competitors
might not offer anything significantly different but without real
competition, who can tell?

Regards,

Gordon
