After Orcon's plans were revealed several weeks ago and it was revealed Ihug agreed to sign up for the 3.5mbps service, I was tentatively waiting for Ihugs plans. As it turns out, it's not so bad. They have removed the doubling of your peak quota if you have your tolls with them so only offpeak is doubled. But prices have dropped for higher data usage plans. My current 2mbps 40+40gb plan is gone replaced with a 3.5mbps 20+40gb plan which is $10 cheaper. I find that even with scheduling, peak is still the bigger problem so I don't know if I'll be going this route. Especially since I'm sceptical whether 3.5mbps will be a big speed upgrade, since although I unfortunately did not record my old speed before they started rate limiting at the Dslam, I don't think it was 4480kbps, in fact I think it was in the low 3000s. And with the contention rate issues...

Looking at the other plans, those with lower data usage and especially those who use very little offpeak will probably be disappointed. But the good thing is it looks like they will be keeping the old plans for their existing customers, unlike Orcon. I guess either their deal with Telecom is slightly different or they've decided they can afford to keep their old structure.

Interestingly, all their plans will now be 3.5mbps.
