256k unleashed?

Hi,

I've got several 256k/40GB plans and at least 3 out of four are going at line
speed, delivering download speeds from OZ (mirror.pacific.net.au, for
instance) of up to 500kbytes/s. The router shows bitrates of 4800 kbit/s down
and (an unchanged) 160 kbit/s up.

I haven't heard anything from my ISP about changes to my plans.

Apparently other people are observing the same according to a thread at
www.gpforums.co.nz.

It would be interesting to see if things stay this way. After all, the same
caps still apply, so there should be no extra cost arising from this for the
ISP(s).

Does someone know the details behind this?

Are the ISPs silently upgrading all connections to line speed now for
simplicity but don't make it public? Imagine 40GB/256k users that fell for
these dodgy 20GB "fair use" capped "flatrates" to get full speed... *very*
bad karma.

Cheers,
Raimund
