Hi Hamish,

Maybe I spoke too soon but my experience is that for a de-regulated
industry, Telecom is not very
progressive at making new technology available at an affordable price. ADSL
is not a new technology and has been
proven around the world. Bell Sympatico, my supplier in Canada - a regulated
telecoms player, was a lot more progressive at providing reasonably-priced
access to high-speed services.

It seems to me that Telecom's upgrade and roll-out strategy has been aimed
more at making the maximum profits from commercial customers who may more
easily absorb the relatively high (by international standards) costs of
access to the technology. Hence the service is available primarily in
inner-city exchanges and not residential ones.

Perhaps it is naive of me to expect that a privately owned company would
make decisions with the intention providing services to all it's customers
over maximising profits to it's shareholders. I guess that's one of the
advantages of being a virtual monopoly.

So my dissatisfaction is probably a mixture of general dissatisfaction with
the job that Telecom is doing in this area, mixed with a specific
dissatisfaction with the lack of access to the service.

Regards,

Brendon

Yes, I work for Telecom, and possibly need to emphasise that
I am not acting on their behalf, (disclosure & dissociation)
however I'm personally interested to know what is specifically
typical of Telecom?

That new subdivisions don't have Jetstream, or that where
you have been located doesn't have Jetstream, or is it just
a general disatisfaction with Telecom?

Your later comments regarding your frustration with NZ
broadband services suggest much wider disatisfaction.
