It is only the DNS servers that don't respond, or all servers?
Try connecting to a server using its IP address only, not the DNS name:
eg (under linux) :
ping 203.109.252.3
ping 202.7.184.3
and traceroute:
traceroute -n 203.109.252.3
traceroute -n 203.109.157.19
If that works then I'm not sure what your problem is.
BUT if the above doesn't work, then the fault is that you are receiving no data
back from iHug via the Satellite. I have seen this fault many many times before.
No matter how hard you tell iHug its their fault they won't care.
To prove it, ping the IP address of the modem-server that you're logged into
("ifconfig | egrep -A1 ppp" on linux will tell you your IP and the remote IP).
For me it is always 192.168.4.247 (NZWide user from Nelson). If you can get a
ping from that IP, but not from one of the ones above, then its defineatly the
satellite return-path that isn't working (when pinging the modem-server, or the
router next to it, all replies come back via the modem, but when pinging
elsewhere all replies come back over the Sat).
I believe its a synchornisation (Sp? ;-) problem between the iHug authenication
servers (probabally radius) and the MAC-encoder used in California used to tie
your current IP up with your MAC address.
I usually find if I log in with the same account in modem-only mode
(username@ihug.co.nz intead of username) for 1 minute, then log out and back
in satellite mode, all is well. I don't know why. I assume its either a timeout
problem, or when you log in as modem-only it syncs agian and is OK.
Its a pity really as Ultra is a very cool service (cooler when they didn't cap
the data). If only they could get their problems sorted, and their A into G when
it comes to customer service.
Rgds,
Pete
