Adam,

First off, thanks for the very positive write up. Its very much
appreciated.

I didn't see your post generating below, but your Aerial is a 25db grid
parabolic from memory. I can see why people would say its overspecced. I
guess its rather like capping ADSL to 128k !!! The difference in price in
a good and "adequate" aerial is $20. As you know there are at least 5
providers in the estate, and most of them have service issues.

The LMR600 is definately high spec'd, but the cost is the same, given
that it was purchased second hand, and that your cable run was quite long.

Our gear within legal transmitting specs. More importantly, its not
inconsiderate to others - being a high gain grid parabolic it has a very
directional beam, and only generates noise when transmitting. It also
needed to get through some nice large trees, and a 2 competitors POP is
probably within 15 degrees off center to where the aerial is
pointing, further it is locked down to 1 meg, and is blasting straight
through a tree. (Hence the interesting 256k speed to our Debian Mirror,
which, BTW is getting its H/D RMA'd on Monday)

FYI, your connection is reporting as follows (off the notebook at your
place)
-
Link Quality = 32/92
Signal = -65 dBm
Sensitivity = 1/3

A ping through our network showed the following result :
667 packets transmitted, 661 received 0% packet loss
round-trip min/avg/max = 4.9/5.7/86.7ms

There were no duplicate packets.

I would be interested in hearing more about this issue of over-powering an
aerial, as far as what would be considered "overpowering".

Cheers,
