Hope this doesn't get too many complaints... It's slightly off topic perhaps but since this list is dead anyway...
Anyone seen the dodgy ads in the Herald on Wednesday about a company called IndraNet looking for investments (totalling $5 million) to develop affordable broadband. While I'd agree with one aspect of their ad, NZ doesn't really have broadband and what we do have is way to expensive the ad didn't exactly inspire confidence in me as a company that is likely to succeed (and the fact that they think they're going to be able to do wonders with $5 million doesn't help either). Did a quick Google and came up with this:
The website inspired even less confidence. I suspect this is probably he last I will hear of IndraNet until I read about the investors complainining about their lost investment...
(Of course, maybe everyone will be laughing at me in 3 years when they read this in the archives but I doubt it, especially with claims like this: )
"Structurally and by design an IndraNet network never runs out of bandwidth. It is designed to scale both concerning the number of users per km2 and in terms of the bandwidth each of these users can enjoy. "
